How to join WAIS (Surveyors WA)

The following information is provided to assist anyone applying for membership of WAIS.

WAIS Membership Prerequisites

Qualifications

A claim to a tertiary qualification, whether a degree, diploma, licence or other post-graduate qualification shall be confirmed by providing a certified copy of the qualification. The witness shall be a person recognised in Western Australia as authorised to witness a document. A list of authorised persons is available at www.courts.dotag.wa.gov.au and includes Licenced Surveyors.

Code of Ethics

Professions Australia requires that a professional be bound by a Code of Ethics. The WAIS Code of Ethics prescribes the standard of behaviour expected of a member. Applicants must accept the Code of Ethics as part of their membership application and those who cannot sign the Code of Ethics in good faith should not apply for WAIS membership. WAIS has a formal procedure to manage a reasonable complaint made with respect to the code against a member

Membership Types

Ordinary Members

Full Membership for people with 3 or more years’ professional surveying experience.

Member (Full)

A person with a recognised tertiary qualification in surveying of at least three years’ duration and with at least two years’ experience as a Surveyor since graduation, currently engaged in income-generating activities related to surveying.

Member (Retired)

A person with a recognised tertiary qualification in surveying of at least three years’ duration and with at least two years’ experience as a Surveyor since graduation, not engaged in income-generating activities related to surveying.


Associate Members

Membership for people with 2 years’ professional surveying experience.

Associate (Full)

A person with a recognised tertiary qualification in surveying, or in a survey related discipline of at least 2 years duration and with at least two years’ experience as a Surveyor since graduation, currently engaged in income-generating activities related to surveying.

Associate (Retired)

A person with a recognised tertiary qualification in surveying, or in a survey related discipline of at least 2 years duration and with at least two years’ experience as a Surveyor since graduation, not engaged in income-generating activities related to surveying.


Affiliate Members

Membership for people in allied professions and for surveying students.

Affliate members: a person who is accepted as a member of WAIS but is deemed by the Management Committee as not qualified to be an Ordinary Member. Affiliates need to be engaged in surveying or allied professions with sufficient interest, intent, knowledge and skills to be able to promote the objectives of WAIS.

Affiliate (Full)

A person that does not meet the requirements to be an Ordinary Member but is engaged in surveying or allied profession with the interest, intent, knowledge and skills to be able to promote the objectives of WAIS.

Affiliate (Student)

A student currently enrolled in an approved course in a discipline of surveying leading to qualifications as a surveyor.

Student membership is FREE on proof of enrolment at an approved institution.

Affiliate (Grad 1)

A holder of an approved qualification in surveying in the first 12 months after graduation.

Affiliate (Grad 2)

A holder of an approved qualification in surveying 12-24 months after graduation.
