Landgate to remain a strong, innovative statutory authority (news alert)

The State Government has this morning announced it will retain Landgate as a statutory authority while seeking to commercialise the agency’s automated land titling functions.  No other Landgate services are affected.  The State’s land titles register will remain state owned.

Registry data will continue to be secured through statutory responsibilities and contractual compliance delivered by the independent Statutory Officers. All existing privacy protections will be maintained and indefeasibility of title will continue to be guaranteed by the State under the Torrens system.

Landgate itself will continue to function as an independent statutory authority providing property valuation, location information and land titling functions that have not yet been automated.

Your organisation’s relationship with Landgate will not change.

Our Landgate team will remain with our business and continue to provide the same service to our commercial, community and government customers as they do today.  All contact details remain the same.

Landgate looks forward to continuing its relationship with you and your team.

Landgate privatisation

The majority of members will be aware of the current publicity regarding the possible privatisation of Landgate. The Institute has been informally approached about this and have provided advice that we were yet to develop a position with respect to the privatisation.

From the current information available, it would appear that this may occur relatively quickly and certainly within the next year. The Executive will be reviewing the proposed privatisation model as further information becomes available and will liaise with other states such as NSW and SA as to how it has affected the surveying profession there.

Our sponsors were: Trimble, AIMS, Fugro, Cottage & Engineering Surveys, AAM, Spookfish, MNG, Haefelli Lysnar, CR Kennedy, SSSI, De Nada Surveys, Business News, RASvy Association Geospatial Frameworks and WAIS.

WAIS moves forward!

Our CPD on 16th Feb attracted 100 surveyors who thoroughly enjoyed the evening.  There was great excitement about the new Engineering Surveying Certification to be published here on 1st March 2017. Max Milne has agreed to chair the Accreditation Panel of Geoff Robb and Rob Agnew. Mike O'Donnell from the Small Business Development Corporation Community provided some very helpful advice and contacts for members.  Jon Kirby brought us all up to date with Surveying Education and Research at Curtin and requested our help in some areas.  Murray Dolling created a lively interactive debate on some curly Coastal Water Boundaries with much food for thought for the future.  The report mentioned by Rob Agnew from Price Waterhouse Coopers will be up on this site soon.  Eugene Browne gave an overview of achievements for WAIS in the last 12 months including New Website, 215 members, regular CPD, the golf day, the new code of ethics, the new Constitution and Bylaws, Engineering Surveying Certification and associated new LOGO, use of trybooking, 2 strategy documents and an Industry partnership program, and official recognition by authorities.  He also announced the appointment of a new Executive Officer Angelique Cooper who commenced on 20th February.

Our Cadastral Connection group still meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We will run at least 4 Cadastral CPD events for 2017 together with the SWAGS event and a one day conference.

To complement the ES Certification  we will be commencing regular Engineering Connection group meetings and a series of Engineering Surveying CPD events in 2017.

Please submit any ideas you might have to make our service to members better we need your help!

Welcome to our new website !

WAIS had no need for a website for the past. The WAIS Board decided to create a website in January 2016 to support their new role and provide better services to members. An active website is vital in this day and age for any organisation providing membership services. The website was developed quickly and launched in February 2016. Being new, feedback is welcomed from members about the suitability of the website, and any areas of improvements to help us best serve our members. As always, we welcome your comments....
